Safe Play Time

There are a variety of juvenile products that provide some hands-free time for parents as well as entertainment or comfort for baby. Whether you are looking for an infant swing, bouncer, or activity center, it is important to do your homework before purchasing and select a product that is perfect for your baby’s age, height, weight and fits your lifestyle. No matter what product you choose, be sure to follow these guidelines to ensure you are using them safely:

  • NEVER leave baby unattended. It is important to stay in the same room as baby while using any bouncer, swing, or activity center.
  • NEVER place entertainment products on beds, sofas, or other soft surfaces.
  • ALWAYS secure the restraining straps.
  • To avoid tip-over, only use infant swings, bouncers, and activity centers on the floor. Never put on elevated or soft surfaces like tables, countertops, sofas or beds.
  • NEVER place the infant swing, activity center or bouncer near windows, stairs, draperies, blinds, TV’s, plants, fireplaces or decorative accessories with long cords that baby could reach.
  • Follow manufacturer’s recommended age, weight, and height for infant swings, bouncers, and activity centers.
  • Avoid letting baby sleep in products intended for play. If baby falls asleep, always move baby to the safest place to sleep, such as a crib, bassinet or play yard.
  • Discontinue use when your baby outgrows the manufacturers recommended age, height, weight or developmental limits.
  • Look for the JPMA Certification Seal.
